Why do we offer Open Studio every week?

9:00:00 AM

First off, what exactly is Open Studio?

Well, Open Studio is a time for any artist of any age to come in and play with art! We offer it twice a week with extended hours on special occasions and in the summer.
During Open Studio artists of all ages and skill levels have open access to all of our art and craft materials. There is no instruction during this time, but there is plenty of inspiration to draw from! We have examples all over the studio and art books to look through to jump start your creative process. Open Studio is also a great time for you to work on one of my Monday Art Prompts or one of the fun Pinterest Inspired projects I have posted about here on the blog!

Weekly Open Studio Sessions are:

Fridays from 3:30-5:30
Saturdays from 11:00-2:00

So why would I want to come to Open Studio?

Open Studio is a time for exploration. It is our belief here at the studio, that all people are innately creative. Yes, even if you don't consider yourself to be creative you are...you can be. Children  are born creative. They have no fear of trying new things...it is their job after all to learn new things, to try them, to explore, and to create. As children grow they often times tend to learn to be more self conscious, that it can be embarrassing to not be good at something. They learn to be more guarded and less free to explore. By the time they are adults they have developed their skills that they are "good at" and often times they have blocked the rest. It is during this time that people tend to label themselves as either "creative" or "not creative."

It is true that we are not all destined to be great artists. We will not all create the next masterpiece. That is fine! You don't have to be an "Artist" to create art.
Studies have proven art to be a form of relaxation, and  for may it can even be considered a meditation or a practice in mindfulness. When you create art you are lowering your stress levels and building your sense of calm and enjoyment in life. Your art does not have to be beautiful for you to reap these benefits. It does not even have to be something you share at all. It is the act of creating the art that is rewarding. It is the Process not the product that is important. During Open Studio, We invite you to channel your inner child.
Open Studio sessions offer you that space and time to create without expectations of a finished piece of art to share with the world. This is your time. Your time to play, to explore, and to create without expectation. We provide a wide variety of materials for you to experiment with allowing you to move from one thing to another and enabling you to find your own creative path. Once you have started your creativity will begin to build, new ideas will emerge, and you will want to try new things.

"You can't use up creativity, the more you use the more you have."
