Donation Based Art!

10:33:00 AM

Donation Based Open Studio Sessions encourage Creative play for all ages and artistic abilities. Beginning June 4th!

Beginning this summer (June 4th, 2018) we will be changing the way we run our Open Studio sessions. We will begin offering our Open Studio Sessions on a donation basis.

Donation Based Art!

We have decided to make this change in an effort to make our art studio more accessible to more people. You  will be able to select an amount you would like to donate when you come to one of our scheduled Open Studio Sessions. We are suggesting a donation is $10 per artist, however if you can not pay that you may select another amount to contribute.

Mixed media and Collages made by artists of all ages in the studio.

As part of our effort to fund this community art program and make it more accessible we will begin raising money from donors. If you would like to help us in our efforts to run this program please consider donating funds through our online store.

DONATE NOW

What your donation provides:
  • Basic consumable art supplies including  paints, glues, drawing materials, and papers. It also purchases our staple craft items such as pompoms, googly eyes, feathers, and beads, etc.
  • Helps pay for the use of the space for this program including a portion of rent and utilities.
  • Helps pay for a studio attendant to assist artists as needed, maintain the studio and the art supplies.

Every $10 donation pays for one artist to create unlimited art for a 2 hour session!

The more money we raise the more frequently we can offer these Open Studio Sessions. It is our goal to be able to offer sessions 5-6 days a week during the summer months, and 1-2 days per week during the school year. We would also like to offer special sessions during select school holidays.

Our estimate to pay for this program for the year comes to $7860 ($655 per month; $151 per week)! Reaching this goal would fund around 130 Open Studio sessions for the year, according to the schedule above)! It is our goal to raise this amount through a combination of fundraising via our website/online store, crowdfunding, and through individual donations from the artists who come in.

Would you like to help out but can't commit to a monetary donation at this time? Consider collecting supplies for our artists to use. Donated items keep our art supply selection fresh and interesting.  We use a lot of recycled items and interesting found objects in our studio. Here is a list of some of our favorites:

Donated Art Supplies

Found Object Art using donated supplies!

  • Corks...we can't get enough of these! We go through them so fast.
  • Small wood scraps, interesting shapes, sticks, and small flat pieces up to a foot long. Please make sure any wood scraps are free of sharp points that might hurt little hands, i.e no rusty nails! ;)
  • Small cardboard boxes, shoe box and smaller.
  • Scrapbook hole punches, all shapes.
  • Fake flowers, all shapes, sizes, and colors.
  • Pipe cleaners
  • Craft feathers
  • Colorful duct tape
  • Magazines in a variety of subject matter, kid/family friendly.
  • Interesting plastic, metal, or wood findings: this could be old game board pieces, washers, old keys, small blocks, spools, broken jewelry... really if you can imagine it glued to another item we can use it!
*Please note that at this time we are full of scrap book paper, fabric, and yarn. We do not have a ton of storage space for these items so until we burn through a bit of our stock pile we are good on these things.

What is Open Studio Exactly?

Artists of all ages enjoying creative play time during Open Studio Sessions.

Open Studio Sessions are scheduled art sessions that are open to the general public. There is no instruction during this time instead all of our general art supplies and craft items are open for you, the artist, to use as you wish. These sessions are open to all ages and we have been fortunate enough to host artists as young a 6 months old all the way up to adult. The majority of our artists tend to be children from around 5- 13 years old, but we encourage our adults to create as well! In short Open Studio Sessions are creative play time.

These sessions are a time to engage in creative play, to explore your own inner artist through creative self expression. There is no "correct way" to create during this time so even if you don't consider yourself to be a creative person, you can still play and have fun!

Summer Open Studio Sessions will be held Mondays-Fridays June 4th- August 2nd from 1:00-3:00 following our Summer Art Camps. Please note the exceptions below.

From painting to quilling, art journaling to coloring there is something to encourage creative play for all ages and artistic levels!
