*All of our art classes and Open Studio sessions now require advanced registration unless otherwise noted.
Sessions are $10 per artist or $35 for 4 artists.
Coffee & Creative Play will be Friday Mornings from 9:00-10:30
Family Crafternoons will be offered select school holidays, in-service days and select Saturday/afternoon dates. Please click on the title above to view the online store for upcoming dates!
*Space is limited for all Open Studio Sessions so register early for your date.
We will no longer hold Open Studio Sessions on Wednesday mornings or Wednesday and Friday Afternoons as it conflicts with our class schedule. I am sorry for any inconvenience. Extended open studio sessions and walk in hours will return in the summer months when school is out.
Messy Baby is Back! (Ages 6-36 mo.)
Messy Baby Art will be returning Mondays at 11:00-11:45.

This sensory based art class is open to babies and toddlers 6-36 months.
*Caregiver participation is required*
Your baby/toddler will use non-toxic kid's tempera paint with a variety of different tools, exploring color and texture.You and your baby will likely get very messy so dress for a mess! Babies are encouraged to explore in their diapers or an old onsie. Adult smocks are available.
There is a sink onsite for cleanup, please bring a washcloth and a towel.
$10/ per week.

Preschool Art Club (Ages 3-6)
Creative Explorations is a Reggio Emilia inspired, process based art enrichment program for preschoolers to age six.
This program will be offered twice per week and you can register for one or both days!
$85 per month for one day a week (additional day only $40!)

Your child will work with both traditional and non-traditional materials as they explore their own creativity. Projects will follow the interests of the class and will focus on sensory exploration and self expression through art. We will experiment, play, and create together each day. We will also seek to incorporate story, movement, and song in our creative explorations.

Parents feel free drop your child off while you enjoy one of the lovely cafes or shops in the area! Parents who wish to stay for the class are welcome to do so, and they will be considered volunteers and may be asked to assist as needed.

Kids Art Classes (Age 6 & up)
Beginning Clay this is a new class series that will be offered for ages 7 and up. This class will meet each Tuesday for 5 weeks beginning on January 16th from 4:00-5:30.
Instructor: Mimi Knight
We will explore the basics of handbuilding by pinching, coiling, and using slabs as we create our very own artwork with a Valentine theme! Students will work on a variety of projects from charms to small bowls. All projects will be glazed during the Feb 6th class and our class will culminate with an art show and Valentine party during the Feb 13th class! All clay materials and glaze are included, as well as the firing fee.

Each day your child will experience art enrichment activities based on the interests of the group. We will combine traditional art projects with creative play. Your child will participate in art games, creative challenges, art experiments, and traditional art projects inspired by various cultures, artists, and art movements. We will combine structured lessons and projects with unstructured creative free time where your child will exercise their own creativity. They will have plenty of opportunities to explore the many materials in the studio for their own creative expression. Each day will look a little different depending on the interest of the group.

Homeschool Mixed Media Art, for Kids Age 7-11. Fridays from 12:30-1:30.
Instructor: Jennifer MacIsaac
We will explore traditional 2D mediums including drawing, painting, and collage techniques. We will focus on the elements and principals of design as we work through techniques within each medium and explore new ways to combine and layer the various mediums together in thoughtful ways. $65 per month.

Meet the Masters is an art class for kid's age 7-11. Class meets Saturday mornings from 9:30-11:00 a.m.

We will be inspired master artists like, Helen Cordero (2 weeks), Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, and Paul Klee. The workshops will include a small 3D sculpture, accordion book making, drawing, and painting. Individual expressive creativity will be encouraged. If a student is absent they may complete their work upon return that month.

Teen Experssive Art Journaling for ages 12-18 Mondays 4:00-5:30

The goal is to get in touch with your inner positive voice and enjoy the creative process which can be a bridge to self-guided art making.

Adult Art Classes (18 and up)

This adult workshop will be using expressive painting techniques along with relaxing breathing, and writing activities to help get in touch with our heart centered energy and positive voice.
This process allows experimenting with color, texture, layering, even collage and text on canvas.
Canvas and other materials will be supplied.
*You may want to bring a mixed media journal to work in as well due to layering and drying
times and or a journal for writing.

Instructor: Amy Broady, CZT
This is a guided group led by a certified Zentangle Teacher (CZT) will teach a new tangle (design) each month. Though these tangles look difficult, they are really quite simple once they have been broken down into their basic steps, and the results are both beautiful and relaxing. The Zentangle motto is, "Anything is possible, one stroke at a time." This group is for both experienced tanglers and those who are just starting out!

Instructors: Gayle Browne-Guided Meditations & Jennifer MacIsaac- Visual Expression
The focus of this class is on taking time out to care for yourself through a practice based in mindfulness and creative self expression. Each month we will focus on a different theme for the class. We will be led in a guided mindfulness style meditation on the theme by an experienced and trained guide. We will then respond with a visual exploration of the same theme. For our purposes a "meditation" is anything we reflect on and "art" is anything we create. There is no need to be experienced in either meditation or art to participate in this class, though experienced participants are always welcome! We are not affiliated with any religion or sect though participants are encouraged to bring their own spirituality to their practice.
Cost for this monthly class is $35 and it is open to both Men and Women.

The Basement Community Art Studio has also teamed up with Creating Mindfulness to offer a companion to the Creative Self-Care series. This monthly group is geared just to women. It will meet monthly at varying locations around Knoxville. It is intended to be a safe space for women to come together for support and self-care through both mindfulness and creative expression.The Women's Circle operates strictly by donation and a $10 donation is suggested, however we understand that some months you may not be able to pay. We wish for you to come anyways, the group is stronger with you!
Space is limited depending on the location hosting so please email us at creatingmindfulnessretreats@gmail.com to let us know if you plan to come. We will confirm your spot via a return email. Please be sure to let us know if you plan to bring a friend so that they can be added to the list as well!
